Areas of focus
Applicants whose native language is not English should submit results of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or alternative proof of English competency (see English Language Proficiency) with their application. The departmental minimum score requirement for TOEFL is 100 for internet-based. The Department’s Graduate Committee will screen applications that meet the requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Applicants without sufficient background in biochemistry and/or microbiology may be refused admittance or required to take additional undergraduate courses in these disciplines as part of their graduate degree program. The final entry into the program requires a financial and supervisory commitment from an individual faculty member.
Entrance into an MSc program requires, at a minimum, completion of an undergraduate degree with sufficient background for graduate studies in Biochemistry and Microbiology.
Preference for admission will be given to students who have a GPA of at least 77% (B+ average, 3.65 on a 4 point scale, high Second Class in Britain) in the last two undergraduate years of study. However, the department will consider students with a minimum GPA of 73% for the last two years of study (B average) who have a demonstrated record of research ability.
