The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Vancouver Island University (VIU) inspires students to become professionals who can navigate and respond to the challenges of an increasingly complex, digital, and connected world. The VIU MBA course focuses on cultivating future leaders.
 
It is one of the most technologically integrated courses in Canada. It embeds data analysis in research courses and four specialized technical courses. This approach enables our students to gain professional experience in advancing everything from organizational behavior to industry in the digital and technological fields and exploring phenomena such as surveillance capitalism and digital media management.
 
MBA students are supported by career guidance throughout the program and work with industry mentors during the internship. With the full support of experienced and dedicated program teachers, they apply what they have learned to business projects. As a VIU MBA graduate, you will begin your career with the necessary subject knowledge, growth mindset, creative and fundamental thinking, making you a confident leader in the broader global business community.

MBA professors bring a unique combination of industry-based expertise and international experience to the classroom and provide academic rigor for real-world examples and cases from their own experience. 

The University of Vancouver Island MBA is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The 
 The MBA program is offered in an intensive 20-month full-time format, which includes a series of clear and comprehensive courses in management, finance, marketing, accounting, research, and technology and 4-month internships and applied business projects.

All students take a 3-week blended core course at the beginning of the MBA program. The foundation introduces students to the basic principles of course learning outcomes and the strict requirements for academic writing and professional representation at the graduate level to prepare our students for success. 

Course progress per semester is divided into 1, 2, or 3 modules. Students have breaks between modules to ensure there are ample opportunities to retain career knowledge and exploration. At the end of each semester, there is a two-week formal study break. 

The eligibility for Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Canada for both domestic and international student is:

The MBA program has a limited number of seats, and the best applicants will be offered a position.

  • University Bachelor degree from a business or non-business discipline.
  • A minimum “B” average in the last two years of the undergraduate degree.
  • Letter of introduction explaining how the MBA will contribute to career plans.
  • A résumé describing education, work, and volunteer experience.
  • Two letters of recommendation from past employers or professors.
  • One year minimum of work experience is required.
  • No GMAT (entrance examination) score is required.
  • Applicants whose previous degree was obtained in a country where English is not the primary/official language and from a university where English was not the language of instruction must meet one of VIU’s English Language requirements for Graduate Programs.

Additional Admission Requirement for International students:

  • Certified copy of all educational documents (enclosed in the original language and a certified copy translated into English, if applicable).
  • Note Applicants without a Bachelor's degree but with significant work experience may apply with a GMAT score. These applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

In addition to the application form, applicants must submit the following:

  • Certified copy of relevant transcripts,
  • Letter of introduction explaining how the MBA will contribute to career plans
  • A résumé describing education, work, and volunteer experience

N.B: Most universities have specific international admission requirements based on different education systems.

The English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Canada: are:

  • TOEFL(ibt): 93
  • IELTS(academic): 7
N.B: ELP is not mandatory for all international students. You could apply without ELP if your previous degree's medium of instruction were in English. Students of Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, for example, are not required to take the ELP test.

Other test requirements:

  • GMAT: Required
N.B: Some programs require both international and domestic students to seat for SAT/ACT (for undergraduate) or GRE/GMAT (for graduate and Ph.D. programs). While others require these aptitude tests only for international students. So, verify it with the respective university before applying.

After completing the course, the student completes the internship. Students work with industry mentors to identify an important organizational problem that will be used to write applied business projects under the supervision of the faculty. Enrollment for the 
MBA program starts in September and January.
