Psychology/Professional Bachelor of Science emphasizes the role of biological factors in psychological phenomena. In particular, basic subject areas/courses have been selected to broadly understand the structure and function of the nervous system, its relationship with the normal behavior of humans and non-human animals, and its relationship with disease processes.
For students interested in health-related professional courses (such as medicine, chiropractic, optometry, physical therapy, etc.) or graduate studies in psychology, neuroscience, or other life sciences, this course should be of particular interest and value. The small class teaching of the program increases opportunities for students to interact with teachers and participate in laboratory surveys or other application activities.
Teachers have rich experience/interests in sleep and biological rhythms, learning and memory, sensory physiology, evolutionary psychology, neuropsychology, psychopharmacology, and the use of EEG, immunohistochemistry, and video behavior analysis techniques. Related to active laboratories.
The Department of Psychology emphasizes practical learning and encourages students to participate in research and other applied activities through coursework or individual teacher supervision.
A degree in psychology allows students to become familiar with current work in the six main areas of psychology to understand the mechanisms that are considered the basis of thinking and behavior. In addition, the degree also provides training in many skills related to social studies, statistical analysis, and interpersonal relationships.
This fusion of theory and practice conforms to the researcher/practitioner model and encourages the fusion of basic research and applied topics. Although this major is not ready for graduates to become psychologists (this requires a doctorate and registration with a provincial regulatory agency), it is good preparation for many related fields of work. It is the first for further training to obtain a major.
