Do you want to change the world? Our plan develops your ability to investigate and understand the root causes of our time's most relevant environmental and social justice issues. Through a combination of critical theories, methods, and personalized community placement, our Social Justice and Community Engagement (SJCE) Master of Arts (MA) program engages students in activities that actively promote social and environmental justice principles in our community and around the world. Through course work, personalized community placement, and Major Research Projects (MRP), you will gain insights to help you understand how to change the world. You will have the skills to promote the development of communities that undertake social and environmental justice work. Our courses lay a solid foundation for SJCE theories and methods and cultivate your research and writing skills through various projects.
Your community location is an opportunity for you to gain practical experience applying theoretical ideas about social and environmental justice in a community setting. The location is determined based on your interests and needs, including any accommodations while ensuring that community organizations benefit from the location.
Full-time courses are usually completed within one year. We also offer part-time courses.
Students pursuing the Master of Arts (MA) in Social Justice and Community Engagement can complete their degree through full-time or part-time study. Full-time students generally complete the course in one year. Part-time students typically take two to three years to complete the course. All students complete their degrees in one of the three ways described below:

Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential to graduate studies at Laurier. Applicants whose language of instruction during their previous postsecondary education was not in English must submit evidence of proficiency in English.
