Program Overview for BA in Canadian Studies in Canada:
Canadian Studies reaches across departments and faculties to help you understand Canada from many different perspectives, whether historical, economic, political, sociological—or even musical.
Careers and future study:
The interdisciplinary approach of the Canadian Studies program is a great foundation for a wide range of activities and careers, including journalism, business, education and law. In addition, you could find yourself in any of the following careers upon graduation:
- policy advisor
- museum guide
- librarian
Future studies could include programs at the graduate or professional level in arts and social sciences, journalism or law.

You’ll need to meet the general admission requirements as well as the program specific admission requirements before you can apply.
Minimum admission requirements:
- Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
- A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
- A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)
Please note: Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission. Typically, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.
If you don’t currently meet these requirements, you may be eligible for one of our upgrading or pathway programs.
International High School Applicant Requirment Based on Curriculum:
- Advanced Placement (AP)
- Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
- French Baccalauréat
- GCE A Level (British System)
- Home-schooled applicants
- International Baccalaureate (IB)

You'll be assessed based on the equivalency of your home country.
