Detailed Information of Master of Education in Canada at St. Francis Xavier University

Program Overview for Master of Education in Canada:

The Master of Education program has two main purposes: a space for students to understand their professional knowledge and establish meaningful connections between this knowledge and the theoretical concepts and knowledge of educational research.

StFX offers MEd degrees in education policy and management or courses and teaching. Students must complete designated core courses in these two streams and choose elective courses that suit their interests.

Completion of a master's degree in education requires 36 credits after the bachelor's degree in education. Students must complete their curriculum within a six-year period, beginning on the first day of the first course or the first day of the month the plan is accepted.

Students have two options to complete the MEd requirements: the thesis approach and the course-based approach. Students choosing the thesis path must complete 24 credits of graduate education courses and 12 credits of thesis. Students based on the course path must complete 36 credits in a graduate education course.

This degree meets the Nova Scotia Department of Education requirements for increasing the level of teacher certification. Educational graduate courses are offered in fall, winter, spring, and summer courses throughout the province.
