Program Overview for Master of Science in Canada:

StFX offers a thesis-based master's program in biology, computer science, chemistry, and earth sciences. Each project accepts approximately 14 students each year.

Why complete an MSc at StFX?
Although StFX is known for its strong tradition as one of the top undergraduate universities, graduate students are an important part of the StFX academic community. StFX Master's students benefit from a highly personalized curriculum and university environment and can play an important role in the supervisor's research plan. 

Graduate students are also mentors to undergraduate students as a teaching assistants for undergraduate students, and when working in the laboratory with undergraduate research assistants. StFX Master of Science graduates have a good track record of publishing research and publishing conference reports, many of whom have engaged in prominent research careers or occupations in various organizations.

The eligibility for Master of Science in Canada for both domestic and international student is:

  • Normally undergraduate Honours degree or equivalent concentration in the subject area (typically about 20 undergraduate courses in the subject area)
  • Minimum 70% average.
  • Admission is competitive. 
  • MSc programs are for exceptional students who have demonstrated scholarly potential. Meeting the minimum admission standards does not guarantee acceptance.

Most students accepted into the MSc program will be offered a funding package that covers the cost of tuition and some portion of living expenses. 

Other Documents required are:

  • Statement of intent (See the Application Form for details)
  • Two reference letters
  • Original transcripts: No students will be accepted to the university until original transcripts have been received and verified. Arrange to have sealed transcripts sent from each college or university you have attended.

N.B: Most universities have specific international admission requirements based on different education systems.

  2. Step 2: Email prospective supervisors directly to ask whether they are willing and able to take on more graduate students with your background. You will be asked to include the name of your potential supervisor in your application.
