Words are one of the most enduring and powerful forces in the world. By learning English, you will learn to use words critically and creatively, which is an indispensable skill for many professions.
Acadia English courses offer more than 40 full-time or half-year courses taught by literature and media studies experts. Our freshman course will introduce you to various novels, plays, poems, and prose while providing you with strategies for developing a clear and persuasive writing style. As a senior student, you will pursue your interests and broaden your literary experience in courses that cover various periods, authors, genres, cultures, and critical methods. There are also a few creative writing courses to choose from.
Acadia offers BA and BA honors options, essays and non-thesis sequences, and an award-winning cooperative education program that allows you to combine learning with paid work experience. As an English learner, you will also have the opportunity to join the Arcadia English Association. As one of the busiest student groups on campus, the English Association hosts open mic poetry nights and movie screenings throughout the year.
If you are interested in writing, you can contribute to the department newsletter and our creative arts magazine. As an advanced English student, you are assigned to study Karel and access seminar rooms and departmental classrooms.
