If you are an avid fan of national and international news or have a passion for business and finance, consider pursuing a degree in economics. Although economics seems to be about money at first glance, it is essentially a people-oriented issue.
Economics is classically defined as "the study of people in everyday life." For all of us, life involves dealing with endless choices and problems. How can I pass the time this week? Should I start a family and, if so, when? Is the movie's expensive popcorn worth it? What's a good way to encourage people to donate more organs? Economics provides a compelling way to think critically about whatever issue people are involved in making decisions, be it government policy that affects the entire country or the smallest individual issue.
Whether the discussion is about inequality and unemployment or the environment, sports, health, and discrimination, the tools provided by economics allow you to analyze the problem and make informed opinions.
The mission of the Department of Economics is to create an environment in which it can develop the skills and knowledge expected by modern economists with traditional liberal arts education and promote interactions between teaching, research, and services, all of which are technologically rich environments.
