Deepen your interest in sociology and prepare for future academic research and employment in this field. You will explore new theories and research methods in Arcadia's highly collaborative graduate sociology courses and apply these skills to research projects to reveal new insights about the society in which we live.
Acadia Masters of Sociology teachers have a wide range of research interests to support their studies. The program specializes in political economy, social development, gender, cultural diversity, work, methods, and social theory.
Your primary focus in this program will be the planning and execution of your chosen research project. Still, the course components will emphasize a deeper exposure to social theory and broader sociological issues.
Get Inspired:
At Arcadia, you will have a high degree of direct contact and involvement with your supervisor, who will help guide your research and learning. The mini-program also emphasizes cooperation between you and your classmates when planning a research project; this can develop your research communication and critical analysis skills while creating a close community in the program. You will also have the opportunity to gain teaching experience through discussion groups and guided classroom experiences.
Research Interests:
Candidates for admission to the graduate programs of Acadia University must possess an honors degree, or a four-year bachelor's degree, from an approved university. Those candidates possessing a major in a field other than their graduate program will normally be required to take sufficient undergraduate courses to make up the equivalent of an Acadia undergraduate major. Special consideration may be given to those candidates wishing to change from one undergraduate field to a related graduate one.
Candidates must have at least a B- average (70%) in the courses taken in the major field in the last two undergraduate years (or 60 credit hours) of university study, including coursework in an undergraduate degree(s) and any graduate work completed.
The number of students admitted to our graduate programs is limited, and possession of the minimum entrance requirements does not ensure admission. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate Studies Officer by emailing gradadmissions@acadiau.ca.
