The Department of Philosophy at St. Mary's University has a small but thriving master's program, generally enrolling one or two students each year. We have special advantages in ethics, social and political philosophy, epistemology, aesthetics, philosophy of education, the modern history of philosophy, philosophy of science, and its history.
Graduate philosophy students quickly became active participants in the department's life and regularly participated in local philosophy meetings and seminars with department members. The department also provides graduate students with the opportunity to be guided in the theory and practice of teaching their subject through classroom observation, participation, development, and delivery of the curriculum and discussion. Funded by the Graduate School of Research and Research, generous scholarships are provided.
We recruit students with academic achievements in undergraduate degrees, and their research interests are consistent with those of our faculty and staff. Potential applicants are encouraged to consult with the graduate student coordinator, Dr. Todd Calder, to discuss their thesis topic before officially applying for the program.
