The eligibility for MA in History in Canada for both domestic and international student is:

To be eligible for admission to the M.A. in History, applicants are normally required to possess a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in History, or its equivalent, from a recognized university or college. Candidates with other qualifications should contact the Graduate Coordinator of the Department of History before applying. To be considered, an applicant shall hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.3 scale), over the last 60 credit hours or equivalent, from an institution recognized by the Senate and shall know the proposed field of specialization satisfactory to the graduate program concerned As part of the application process each student accepted into the program is assigned to a Supervisor who is the main point of contact for researching and writing the thesis.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the Graduate Coordinator before formally applying to the Program to confirm their eligibility and the availability of potential supervisors.

  2. Research Proposal: Outline the subject of your proposed thesis in a 1 - 2 page document. It is recommended you contact the graduate coordinator in the Department of History before preparing your application.
  3. A sample of academic or other written work includes a chapter from your honors thesis or a term paper from an upper-level undergraduate seminar. (10-25 pages in length)
  4. A current CV/Resume.
  5. Transcripts: We will accept uploaded unofficial transcripts for evaluation purposes. Applicants must upload a grading scale with their unofficial transcripts. Successful applicants will be required to submit official final transcripts. 
  6. Three (3) recommendation forms.

All successful applicants are automatically considered for graduate funding. Students are encouraged to apply for external funding including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s Joseph-Armand Bombardier Master’s Graduate Scholarship.
