Program Overview for MA in Geography in Canada:

The Master of Geography program provides opportunities for advanced research in human and physical geography. Through courses and essays, students understand the interaction between nature and society and creating unique spaces, places, landscapes, and regions. They also develop and apply their skills to map, analyze, and synthesize spatial phenomena. Geographers have a wide range of needs, including urban and regional planning, industrial location, marketing, resource development, environmental management, and geoinformatics.

The eligibility for MA in Geography in Canada for both domestic and international student is:

The normal qualification for entry is an honors BA or BSc degree in Geography, an honors degree in a cognate discipline with substantial course content relevant to geography, or a degree which the department deems to be equivalent (to include, at minimum, a cumulative grade point average of at least B). Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact prospective faculty supervisors before submitting an application.

  2. A current CV/Resume.
  3. A Research Proposal outlining your proposed area of research and indicating a potential supervisor with whose research your topic best aligns. Include potential data collection and analysis techniques and justification for your proposed project.
  4. Sample of academic or other written work (10-page maximum).
  5. Transcripts: We will accept uploaded unofficial transcripts for evaluation purposes. Applicants must upload a grading scale with their unofficial transcripts. Successful applicants will be required to submit official final transcripts. 
  6. Three (3) recommendation forms, two of which should be from academics familiar with your work.

Full-time students admitted to the MA in Geography may be eligible for a student stipend through the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research funds. The Program Coordinator makes funding decisions in consultation with Department of Geography members.

Stipends are provided on a competitive basis within the program. Limited departmental TA funding is also available. In addition, it is anticipated that Geography faculty research grants will be available. Students are encouraged to apply for external scholarship funding.
