Research in the Department of Pathobiology addresses such diverse areas as pathogens of animals and how they interact with their hosts, emerging and zoonotic pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, immunologic and genetic bases of resistance to infectious disease, development and progression of cancer, and immune-mediated and inflammatory diseases.
Research-based MSc (2 years) or PhD (4 years) degrees are offered to non-veterinarians and veterinarians in all fields of study in the department. Veterinary specialty training is offered through DVSc (3 years) and Graduate Diploma (1 year) programs for applicants with a DVM degree.
Applicants should have either a DVM (or equivalent) degree with at least a `B' average over the four years of the program, or an honours degree in biological sciences with at least a `B' average during the final 2 years. In either case, performance in relevant biomedical science courses, (e.g. microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, etc) at a level above the minimum `B' average is normally expected. Admission requires the prior identification of a faculty advisor and a source of financial support for the student. Supportive letters of reference, based on sound knowledge of the applicant, are essential. Applicants should submit a one-page statement of research interests and career goals in order to assist in the identification of a faculty advisor who has the facilities and funding necessary to support the thesis research, and who can provide a stipend if the student is not independently supported. Applications may be submitted at any time. Students may be admitted in the fall, winter or spring semesters, with a preference for the fall. Moreover, you need to submit:

Graduate students in the department are supported by competitive awards from various agencies listed below. Information about some of these can be found at the links provided. In some cases, stipends may be available in the form of Graduate Research Assistantships from research advisors, so that potential advisors should be consulted on their availability (see Local Funding Sources); Contact potential supervisor before applying. Application is accepted on going basis.
