The Tri-University Doctoral Program generally supports thesis preparation in nine fields of study:
- Cold War History
- World History
- Modern European History
- Canadian History
- Indigenous Histories of Turtle Island
- Scottish History
- Early Modern European History
- Medieval History
- War and Society
These are the international student eligibility for the MA in History in Canada
Degree in history, or equivalent, with at least a second class (B) average; Statement of intent, describing proposed area of study and proposed thesis topic; Moreover, you need to submit:
- Transcripts
- Recommendation Letter
- Letter of Intent (Statement of Purpose)
- CV/Resume
N.B: Most universities have specific international admission requirements based on different education systems.

All eligible MA students receive guaranteed financial support in the form of teaching assistantships and scholarships. In both cases, they are made up of:
- a variety of tuition and research scholarships
- graduate teaching assistantships
- opportunities to apply for periodic awards for travel and research
- faculty advice and references for external funding applications (Not to worry! After the guaranteed funding period, students are still eligible to apply for on-campus employment, bursaries, scholarships, and grants.)
