The School of Fine Art and Music provides students with unique opportunities to gain expertise and professional experience in the study and management of art and material culture within an interdisciplinary research context.
The program prepares students for careers in a variety of related fields including cultural resource and collections management in museums, archives, libraries, and galleries and careers in legal, business, educational, and governmental organizations and agencies associated with the material world.
They provide students with the credentials required for further specialization in art research and education, restoration and conservation, librarianship, and therapeutic art practices

Assistantships and scholarships will be awarded through an application protocol devised and supervised by the Graduate Studies Committee. All students are expected to apply for and to receive two Teaching Assistantships during his/her program of study. Students will be encouraged to apply for external financial support. Additionally, a variety of research scholarships are available on a competitive basis. Information on awards and funding assistance is available from Graduate Studies.
A number of internal scholarships are also available competitively to MA Program students including University Graduate Scholarships, Board of Graduate Studies Research Scholarships, and college-specific awards. Prospective applicants graduating from Ontario undergraduate programs are strongly encouraged to apply for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) in advance of applying for admission to the MA program at the University of Guelph.
