Courses that do not qualify for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship:
All Nationalities except the UK
Our scholars come from different backgrounds, and everyone brings something unique to the program. We use four criteria to select them.
Academic Excellence:
To receive the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, candidates must demonstrate academic excellence (through their academic records, letters of recommendation, experience, and potential for success in the chosen course).
The academic department of the University of Cambridge nominates only the academically best applicants for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship to ensure that those we choose will thrive in Cambridge.
Reasons for choosing a course:
You should be able to provide a strong reason for a Cambridge postgraduate degree. PhD applicants (and most Master of Philosophy research applicants) need to contact potential supervisors, and they will develop the research project with them, whose abstract is part of the application.
You need to prove that you have the academic background, skills and experience required to complete the course. Taught masters and other applicants must fully explain how the completion of the proposed course will promote their career planning. Gates University of Cambridge is looking for scholars with experience in academic change at the University of Cambridge, so it is very important that you conduct research and fully prove the course you are applying for.
Committed to improving the lives of others:
A decisive feature of the Gates Cambridge Project is that our scholars are committed to improving the lives of others. We interpret this standard extensively, and applicants define it by providing evidence of their past, present, and future commitment to the society in which they will live and work.
Leadership:
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate leadership skills, which can be expressed in a variety of ways. Applicants must provide evidence of leadership experience to date and explain how their leadership skills may affect future careers.
A note on Ph.D.: Master's award ratio:
In order to create and maintain a viable academic community at Cambridge University and allow scholars to make the most of their time in Cambridge, our goal is to select approximately 2/3 of PhD students every year. Applicants for a master's degree should pay special attention to explaining why this is the most suitable course for them and how important it is to their future academic or professional training plans.
Applicants submit applications for admission and funding through the University Graduate Application Portal (Gates Cambridge and other funds).
To receive the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, you must complete the application for admission to university courses and places and the Gates Cambridge part of the funding part. Gates University of Cambridge can obtain a complete application for admission and funding by reviewing the application.
Admissions Section:
In this section, you will apply for specific graduate programs and university positions. It will provide all common details about you, your educational background, plans and suitability for the proposed course.
Funding Part:
In this part, you can apply for various funding provided by universities and partner institutions, including the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, which has its own part. When applying for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, you will be asked to provide the following information:
Statement:
On the application form, we ask you:
In no more than 3000 characters (approximately 500 words), please explain the reason for your application for the Gates Scholarship Cambridge scholarships and how to meet the four main criteria. For complete details on how to apply, including selection criteria and guidelines for completing this statement, please visit: www.gatescambridge.org
Gates Cambridge’s Candidate List Committee uses this statement to distinguish reasons for highly rated candidates from academic departments. It helps our committee to identify candidates who, in addition to outstanding academic performance, also possess leadership skills and are committed to improving the lives of others. This is the only part of the application form that specifically asks whether the applicant is suitable for the Gates Cambridge course. You should use your background, achievements, experience and future goals to show how you can adapt to the Gates Cambridge course.
Research Plan (for PhD applicants only)
Gates Cambridge requires PhD applicants to submit only one Research Plan as part of their funding application. Most PhD applicants will upload a research plan as part of their application for admission, but in this case, a research plan is not required to apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. If you are applying for a degree other than a PhD, you do not need to submit a research plan as part of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship materials.
Gates Cambridge Reference Materials
In addition to the two academic reference materials for admission, applicants to Gates Cambridge University must also submit a reference material indicating their corresponding scholarship grade.
In the application form, we require:
Assess whether the applicant is eligible for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. These are awarded based on the following criteria: intelligence, reasons for choosing a course, commitment to improve the lives of others, and leadership skills.
We also asked:
The Gates Cambridge Reference is used in the same way as the Gates Cambridge Statement: it reduces a large number of qualified applicants to those who meet the Gates Cambridge standard.
The referee was also asked how they evaluated scholarship applicants: special, strong, not strong, and weak. They can paste/type up to 4,000 characters in the online reference or upload individual letters.
Who should write Gates Cambridge Reference?
This is a common problem. You should definitely not ask your friends or family, or comment on whether you are suitable for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
You should ask the person in the right position, who can answer questions authoritatively and understand the standards and the highly competitive nature of the Gates Cambridge Project.
Many applicants asked current or former academic advisers who knew their personal characteristics, others asked current or former employers, and some applicants asked senior staff of organizations they might have joined voluntarily.
These are all wise choices, although this is by no means an exhaustive list. Some applicants require one of their two academic recommenders to write the Gates Cambridge reference material-as long as that person has a good understanding of your personal qualities and does not provide a third academic recommender.
The important thing to remember is that the Gates Cambridge referee must understand the content of the scholarship and must be able to authoritatively write how you meet the criteria.
