Mustard Seed Foundation is a Christian family foundation founded in 1983 and led by Dennis W. Bakke and Eileen Harvey Bakke. The foundation gives priority to providing funding to churches around the world involved in ministry, including outreach, discipleship training, and economic empowerment. The foundation also provides scholarships to Christians seeking higher education degrees to prepare for leadership roles in society.

Strategic areas:

People must be able to demonstrate that their expected occupational areas have a significant impact on society, but it seems that there are insufficient numbers of Christians. We understand that these fields may be different in different countries or settings, because applicants come from all over the world and plan to work in different countries around the world.

Therefore, it is the applicant's responsibility to provide strong reasons for the strategic nature and under-representation of Christians in this field or context in his application.

The most successful applicants tend to prepare for careers in the following fields:

  • Public and private sector economics, business and finance
  • International diplomacy, security and trade
  • News and media
  • Film production, visual and performing arts
  • Public policies and federal, state and major city governments
  • Theoretical and applied sciences
  • Research, teaching and administration in major secular colleges and universities

We do not believe that the priority occupations for this scholarship include: churches or religious organizations, civil servants, elementary and secondary education, Christian education, cleaning, agriculture, non-profit assistance and economic development, military service, private practice of law or medicine, clinical psychology or consulting, social work, professional sports and other fields have traditionally attracted to a higher percentage of Christians.

Although we value these disciplines and those who work in them, the purpose of this scholarship is to encourage academic and professional activities in fields with significant social impact, in which the presence of Christians is considered minimal.
