Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme in Turkey: Tuition fees and living expenses

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of graduate scholarships to selected outstanding students from developing countries each year. These students have no other way to fund their studies in order to train effective scholars and leaders and prepare them for employment. It is within AKDN. The scholarship obtains 50% grant-50% loan through a competitive application process once a year in June or July.

The Foundation gives priority to applying for master's level courses, but is willing to consider applying for doctoral courses. It is only suitable for outstanding students (academic or research-oriented) who are strongly recommended by professors to pursue doctoral degrees and need a doctorate to achieve their professional goals. 

Applications for short-term courses will not be considered; neither are applications from students who have already started the course.

Application Criteria for Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme in Turkey


Geographical scope:

The foundation accepts applications from citizens of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique. 

In France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, accept applications from people from one of the above-mentioned developing countries who are interested in development-related research and have no other way to fund their education.

Residency requirement:

The foundation only accepts applications from previously qualified citizens living in one of the countries where the local offices of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Service (AKES) or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB) are located . interview candidates. 

Age Limit: 

Priority is given to students under 30 years of age.

Selection criteria 


The main criteria for selecting the winners are:

  1. consistent excellent academic performance
  2. real financial needs
  3. admission to a reputable university or study program, and
  4. relevance of the research field to the key areas of AKDN. 

Candidates will also be evaluated in terms of demonstrating thoughtful and coherent education and career plans, their extracurricular interests and achievements, their potential to achieve their goals, and their likelihood of success in a foreign academic setting. Applicants must have many years of work experience in their field of interest.

Financial Aid: 

The Foundation only helps students pay for tuition and living expenses. Travel expenses are not included in the AKF scholarship. Funding for the PhD program only covers the first two years of study, after which students must seek other sources of assistance. 

Financial assistance is provided according to the needs of the students, but the ISP should be considered the lender of last resort. Applicants should also make every effort to obtain funds from other sources in order to minimize the amount applied to the foundation. Priority is given to those who can obtain some funds from other sources. 

Loan Terms:

Half of the scholarship amount is considered a loan and 5% of the annual service fee must be repaid. The loan agreement must be signed by the guarantor. The payback period is five years, beginning six months after the end of the research period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Application procedure: 

The application procedure of the AKF International Scholarship Program is decentralized. Students can obtain application forms at the AKF office or Aga Khan Educational Service/Committee in their current country of residence between January 1 and each year. 

The completed application form should be returned to the institution that obtained the form. They should not be sent to Geneva.

Please note that the deadline varies from country to country.

Interview and Selection Notice: 

Applicants should be prepared to be interviewed by the local scholarship committee regarding their financial status, academic performance, extracurricular achievements, and career plans. The Annual Scholarship Selection Meeting will be held in late June or early July, and the Aga Khan Foundation will notify all students of their application results shortly thereafter.
