The Rotary Scholarship Program is one of the largest privately funded scholarship programs in the world. In 2017, Rotary International celebrated the 70th anniversary of the scholarship program.

In the past 15 years, the region has supported more than 200 recipients in the old "ambassador" program or the current global grant program. Most of them have studied in our district and received funding from the Rotary Club and district in their hometown, but the 1090 district also sponsors a researcher (occasionally two scholars) to study abroad or in our district every year.

The Rotary Graduate Scholarship is funded by the Rotary Foundation’s Global Grants. All global grant applications must meet one or more focus areas.

Rotary District 1090 in the Thames Valley, UK, is looking to award one scholarships for post-graduate study in the academic year. These scholarships are each for USD 30,000. Applicants’ studies, careers and community work must fit within one or more of Rotary’s six areas of focus. Applicants must be from outside the UK, from a low or middle-income country.

Six Focus Areas are:

  • Promoting peace
  • Fighting disease
  • Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
  • Saving mothers and children
  • Supporting education
  • Growing local economies

Although Rotary scholarships can usually be used for up to four years of full-time graduate academic study, the district's 1090 scholarships are only used for one year of study. Scholarships cannot be used for unsupervised research, medical practice or residence, or full-time work.

Students who have won the Rotary scholarship are not prohibited from applying for or accepting funds from other scholarship programs.
