Latvian state scholarships for studies and research in Latvia are provided for international students, researchers, the academic and scientific teaching staff at Latvian higher education institutions.

Bachelor's students, who have already successfully completed at least 1 academic year at any higher education institution (HEI), can apply. Master’s, PhD students from any previous HEI are eligible applicants, as well as academic and scientific staff of Latvian or foreign higher education and research institutions.

More than 40 country nationals are eligible to apply for Latvian state scholarships for studies and research in Latvia.

Application Requirement for Latvian state scholarships for studies and research in Latvia

Applications for bachelor's and the first level of professional higher education studies will be accepted from students who have successfully completed at least one academic year of studies (at their home higher education institution or at a Latvian higher education institution, if they already have been studying in Latvia) at the moment of application (February, March 2021).

Scholarships for bachelor`s and master`s studies are granted for one academic year – a time period up to 10 months (for PhD students – up to 11 months).

Evaluation Criteria for Latvian state scholarships for studies and research in Latvia

The following criteria are used for Latvian state scholarships for studies and research in Latvia:

The academic success of the applicant in the last two semesters if studies are not completed or in the diploma (5 points)
Outline of how the chosen studies will improve the applicant’s knowledge and professional skills as well as the motivation for studying in Latvia (5 points)
The applicant’s out-of-study activities related to the chosen study field in Latvia and his/her state (practical appointments in professional organizations, participation in research conferences and international projects etc.) (5 points)
The applicant has applied for the studies in the field of the Latvian and Baltic philology , literature and culture or history of Latvia (5 points)

Benefits

The benefits of the Latvian state scholarships for studies and research in Latvia are:

EURO 670 per month for PhD students and EURO 500 per month for Bachelor and Master's student
